Bones and Flesh

The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman,'
for she was taken out of man." Genesis 2:23 NIV

I think I am going to start reading in Genesis again and start all over. I have a problem.. I don't like history and therefore it is very hard for me to read the bible. The Bible is a story beginning to end; Genesis to Revelation. We as Christians love to skip around the bible, I believe it was meant to be chronologically read otherwise we are missing a whole heap of stuff. What do I mean by a "whole heap?" Things you read in Genesis can explain why things are the way they are in exodus and it can even explain why things are the way they are today. God had an intended meaning for the bible and that is our first goal to study the bible and find God's intended meaning and then there are a few more steps, but finally you get to application. Last. Application. Last. I think as Christians (me) we forget this.

Anywho, the verse I put at the beginning of this keeps ringing in my mind. What bone, if any did God take from Adam to make Eve. Was it a bone or a symbol to represent something of significance? I've heard a story that goes like this: God took Adams rib to make Eve and the rib God took from Adam grows back (hince why man doesn't have one less bone than women do) and I've also heard that if you get your rib tested you can find out if your love one is your true mate? THAT COULD BE TOTALLY BOGESS! (the part in red)

So I am off to read through Genesis and try to connect the books as God intended it. I am aware I am not God and therefore can't figure everything out, but with a few helps (greek lexicons etc...) I am going to try to study the meaning of different words back in the day it was written. And I am going to try to find on my own if that bone can actually grow back etc... Wish me luck and if you have any comments or you know the answer feel free to drop me a line, I would love to discuss it, but I am still going to look it up myself.

Thanks.

A great source is followtherabbi.com - use the Scripture search in the upper right hand corner.
