As most of you know I am studying at New Tribes Bible Institute for a year and then I have the opportunity to continue with the program by going on a 16 month internship overseas. They have announced our site!!!! Here is the following letter from the director giving more details!
Dear January Students,
I didn't want you to be left out of all the fun today, so you should at least get some news!
Because you are a small group, we have decided that we can only create on single Global Internship site for you. You will be given the opportunity to apply for that site toward the end of this term.
Today we officially reveal to you that the site is Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Chiang Mai is situated close to what is known as the "Golden Triangle," the place where Myanmar (Burma), Laos, and Thailand come together just a very short distance from the southern border of China. This is an area of great diversity in small ethnic groups spread out over a wide semi-mountainous area.
Our Bethany Missionaries in Chiang Mai work with one of those groups, and often travel back and forth to Southern China, one is a Bible translator, the other is a member of one of the tribal groups and came to the Lord in Southern China. Prior to their meeting she was an itinerant evangelist for her home church group and still travels into her home region often. They have connections with many ministries doing a wide range of ministry work within the area.
Chiang Mai will afford you opportunities to work on the cutting edge of Buddhist-Chinese world. Neighboring Myanmar is also one of the most closed and undreached countries in the region. WE hope to give you opportunities to travel into Southern China as well Learning there will prepare you in many ways for any future opportunity in ministry, but will give you keen insight into this strategic mission frontier.
I do need to caution that while we are announcing this now, and do not foresee any obstacles to this, we recognize that between now and this summer when you are going through the application process things could change.
Please be in prayer as to whether God is calling you to this exciting challenge. We realize that this might take you a whole different area of the world than what you might have hoped. Subit that prayerfully to God and seek to hear him on it!
